Close friends and family often visit
unannounced in Russia and spend hours sitting around a kitchen table
and talking (we really often do it!)

It is common for guests to bring a
gift of flowers, food, wine or vodka, as well as some small art
objects as souvenirs.

While wealthier urban Russians often have a cottage in the
country, called a dacha,
to which they go for weekends and holidays, many Russians still have to
devote much of their leisure time to taking on extra jobs or looking after
their households.

Soccer is the favourite sport
but others, particularly winter sports such as ice
skating, ice hockey, and cross-country
skiing, are also popular.

Playing chess and computer
games are favourite pastimes.

Watching television is the
most common leisure activity.
