Capitolium,
this is the latin name, is the most important hill because it was the acropolis and the
religious centre of ancient Rome. It was divided in two part: the
Capitolium and the Arx, where now there is the church of Aracoeli.
On the ancient Capitolium we can admire today the beautiful
place of Michelangelo with the palace of "Conservatori" and the new palace, in
both of them there is the Musei Capitolini with ancient statues and pictures
of different periods. In the centre of the palce there is the statue of Marco Aurelio, a
copy of the ancient Roman statue. |
