Food at Julian

At Julian Jr. High we have hot lunch days twice a week, Wednesday and Friday. The days rotate from pizza day, to hot dog day, to McDonald's day. Pizza day is usually on Wednesday, we order from Dominos. The students wait in line to get a ticket which is given to the lunch helpers to show you've paid for hot lunch. The pizza is usually pretty good, but sometimes it's soggy or cold. Efforts need to be made to keep the pizza warm. The pizza also comes with a Coke. On hot dog day we get our hot dogs from Tasty Dog which is a local hot dog place. Personally I think that Tasty Dog needs to live up to their name. The hot dogs are rubbery and off-colored. They literally bounce when you drop them. My friends and I have contests to see who can bounce theirs the highest. The hot dog lunches also include a bag of chips and Oreos. The only thing that I haven't found anything wrong with is McDonald's day. On McDonald's day we get a cheese burger, a cup of ice cream, and a bag of chips. The ice cream is soft serve and is pretty good. The chips however, don't seem to fit in with the McDonald's motif. All in all the hot lunch system isn't as good as it could be.

On days without hot lunch, students either bring their own lunch, or buy one from the school. The lunches from home are all different. They can range from cold, leftover pizza to a Caesar salad. The school lunches aren't that good. The sandwiches are usually peanut butter and jelly. They usually come with a fruit cup and a small snack. The school also provides vending machines for an extra little treat.
